В среду, 23 декабря, полицию Детройта на одну смену возглавил семилетний мальчик, сообщает The Detroit News.
Картера Уидмера, одетого в специально пошитую для него полицейскую форму, доставили к штаб-квартире полиции Детройта на вертолете, где “начальника на один день” привели к присяге. Мальчика сопровождал его отец – лейтенант отряда полиции специального назначения Джон Уидмер.
Постоянный начальник полиции Джеймс Крейг назначил Картера временно исполняющим его обязанности поле того, как мальчик продемонстрировал свою исключительную лояльность правоохранительным органам – пожертвовал свои сбережения и подаренные на Рождество деньги в пользу полицейской кинологической службы.

Мальчик уже заявил, что в будущем станет полицейским, но пока не решил, кем именно – кинологом или сотрудником отряда особого назначения, как отец.
Глава полиции Детройта подчеркнул, что Картер пожертвовал деньги без подсказки со стороны взрослых – это было его собственное решение. По данным AP, сумма пожертвования составила 250 долларов – целое состояние для семилетнего мальчика.
