Ликвидация полиомиелита: новую вакцину применяют в 155 странах
С 17 апреля в течение двух недель медики 155 стран в рамках программы Всемирной организации здравоохранения (ВОЗ) по окончательной ликвидации полиомиелита будут использовать новую вакцину. Об этом сообщает издание Tech Times.
Современная медицина успешно борется с проявлениями этого заболевания: по состоянию на апрель 2016 года было зарегистрировано всего 9 природных случаев в двух странах – Афганистане и Пакистане. В медицинские учреждения и пункты вакцинации доставлены миллионы доз лекарства. Запасы устаревших препаратов планируется изъять из оборота.
Известно три типа полиомиелита. Способность закрепляться в кишечнике человека свойственна типу II, причем в природе этот штамм не обнаруживался уже 17 лет. Новая вакцина не содержит вирусов типа II, что исключает вероятность случаев вакциноассоциированного полиомиелита.
Еще в 1950-х годах медики создали два типа вакцин: с инактивированным вирусом и ослабленным. Первую вакцину применяли преимущественно в развитых странах (среди ее преимуществ – возможность ее введения персоналом без медицинского образования), вторую стали использовать в рамках кампании по ликвидации полиомиелита.
Вакцина с ослабленным вирусом может заражать других людей с последующим формированием у них иммунитета. Однако "живой" вирус в вакцине может мутировать с образованием болезнетворных штаммов. В 2015 году из 74 случаев полиомиелита 27 имели так называемое вакциноассоциированное происхождение.

В конце ноября 2015 года Всемирная организация здравоохранения попросила Минздрав объявить чрезвычайное положение в Украине в связи со вспышкой полиомиелита.
